Jürgen Mai

JÜRGEN MAI was born in 1968 in Bensheim on the Bergstraße. In the age of 15, he discovered photography, which in 1990 led to his enrolment at the programme for Communication Design with an emphasis on photography at Darmstadt's University of Applied Sciences' department of design. He graduated in 1996 upon concluding his studies with Professor Gerhard Schneider. The company "Panorama-Pictures" asked him in 1994 to conduct panorama shots with a roundshot camera. Fascinated by the aesthetic potential of this format, he developed the "380 degree photography" in 1996. Jürgen Mai was the first photographer to specialize on this unusual format and he finds his subjects in the fields of city images and landscape, portrait and sports.
