Rudolf Rother

RUDOLF ROTHER was born in Munich in 1927. After the War and a period as a POW he apprenticed as a typesetter and commercial assistant in a publishing house. In the years that followed, he worked in Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, New York and Springfield/Illinois. He returned to Germany in 1956, where he joined Bergverlag Rudolf Rother, a publishing company owned by his father that had been founded back in 1920 and specialized in mountain themes and which he took over in 1964. Driven by a wish to share his enthusiasm for the mountains with others, he endeavored to climb to the highest points in the Alps. And often he found himself forced to scale a peak two or three times to get the right weather and the right light in which to take the motifs he had set his heart on.
