Uwe-Carsten Fiebig

Uwe-Carsten Fiebig was born in 1962 in Augsburg. After completing his schooling, he studied electronics/communications technology at the Technical University of Munich. In 1988 he began his scientific career at the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) (German Aerospace Centre) in Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich. He obtained his doctorate in 1993 as an external doctoral candidate at the University of Kaiserslautern, and shortly after took over the direction of a research department at the Institute for Communication and Navigation of the DLR. He also passes on his enthusiasm for his work to students at the universities of Ulm and Linz, where he teaches satellite communication and navigation.

The curiosity, without which Uwe-Carsten Fiebig would not be involved in research, occasionally took him to far-distant countries. He is however just as much at home trekking through his native mountains, where he can find detachment from our modern, high-tech world and enjoy the beauty of nature.

Uwe-Carsten Fiebig today lives with his wife and two children in Starnberg. It can be no accident that the street in which he lives is called the “Alpenstraße”, and the panorama of the Alps can be seen from his doorstep.
